Two new categories have been added to the Directory Portal Forum under the Miscellaneous section: Introduction and Forum Suggestions. I have provided a brief description of the new categories below…

Introduction:
This is a place where fellow business owners who share the common purpose of listing their site within our directories can introduce themselves. Although, this is not a place to promote your business’ site–we’ll let your site listings in our directories do that for you. This category can also be where you can discuss and praise how either iEntry’s directories, or any other directories around the web have help improved your business’ popularity and clientele. So, feel free to stop by and say hi!

Forum Suggestions
Would you like to see a directory-related topic discussed here on our forum? Or, have we missed something relating to our directories, or directories in general? Please let us know! We at iEntry are here to serve you, so please let us know of anything that you would like to see here relating to the sites that help promote your business.

So, feel free to stop by the forum for everything directory-wise. Hope to see you there! :)

A new genre of directories has emerged from the iEntry network called “Social Media Directories,” and our first site to start this new genre is Twellow.com (short for Twitter Yellow Pages). This is a directory of Twitter users sorted by categories from keywords in their profile.

For those that don’t know, Twitter.com is a social networking service where users can blog about what they are doing in 140 characters or less.

Twellow has 41 unique, browsable categories ranging from Accounting to Web Developer. The site also has a quick, and easy search function where a person can search for a Twitter user either by the person’s name, location, or any keyword associated by their profile. You may also use the search tool to find users within a specific category. For example, if a person wanted to search for a user who liked pizza, they could enter ‘pizza’ in the Search only categorized people text box, then select ‘Food’ under the Category drop-down list, and click “Search”, and it will show the results of all of the users who are under the “Food” category that have the “pizza” as a keyword in their profile.

So, feel free to check out Twellow.com, and if you have any questions regarding the site, pose your inquiries in the Twellow.com subcategory under the Social Media Directories category on our Directory Portal Forum, and I will promptly reply with an answer/resolution.

Happy surfing! :)

Many of you have been asking recently how to change the title and description for your site listing within Jayde, so I have provided a small tutorial on how to achieve this process, and the guidelines for your desired modifications.

To submit the new information for your site listing, it can be done by posting a request in the Directory Portal Forum. Click on the Site Listing Modifications subcategory under the Jayde category, and post a thread stating the following…

  • The URL of your site listing in Jayde - it will look like http://www.jayde.com/XXXXXX-mysmallbusiness.html (X = number)
  • Desired title for your site listing.
  • Desired description for your site listing.

The Title - The maximum length for your site listing’s title is 65 characters (including spaces). Your title should represent your business within 1 sentence / phrase.

The Description - The maximum length for your description is 255 characters (including spaces). Your description should be provided in paragraph form which is better suited for the Search Engine Optimization within Jayde.

If you need guidance on the arrangement of your title and description, or want to know if your requests are within the specified character guidelines, I will be glad to help you. Just simply jump to our forum and ask me within the Site Listing Modifications subcategory under the Jayde category.

Many questions have come in to me recently regarding their URL in Jayde, and why the URL that an individual or company has submitted is different that the URL that is listed within their Jayde site listing. The possible reason for this is because Jayde only accepts top level domains on submission, and anything after the domain suffix (e.g. .com, .net, .biz) will automatically be truncated. I have specified an example below.

On the submit page, when the URL of http://geocities.yahoo.com/mylittlecollectibles is submitted…

It will appear as http://geocities.yahoo.com

The reason for our crawler truncating the remaining section of the URL is that we want the whole site of your business represented well in your site listing, and not just a small portion. Business representation is key in SEO (Search Engine Optimization), and we are committed to help your site gain better popularity and clientèle. If you need your site listing URL modified, please let me know in the forum under the Site Listing Modifications subcategory of the Jayde category.

However, this is not a dead end road–we do have a wide collection of niche directories that do cater to URLs that include pages after the domain suffix. A list of these niche directories can be found in our Directory WhitePages found on the left-hand side of this page. Feel free to submit to as many as you would like–there is not any limit.

On a side note
Yesterday (Wednesday, June 18th, 2007) was the official launch of iEntry’s Directory Portal. This site reached approximately 4,500 pageviews, and on behalf of the whole iEntry team, I would like to thank you for stopping by our blog(this page), and our forum. Please feel free to stop by here anytime to get updated on directory news, and support.

As Chad mentioned recently, WebProNews has launched a directory.

The directory is dedicated to indexing only quality sites that could be of use to eBusiness professionals. In other words, if you run an online business, you will be able to find helpful resources for many different areas of it.

The directory is very strictly human-edited to ensure it remains a quality resource, and all submissions are free. There is no paid inclusion.

This directory is aimed more at the user than the submitter.

You will be able to find well-known sites like Technorati for searching blogs, and MarketWatch to get Financial News, but for every Technorati there are many other blog search tools. For every MarketWatch there are many other resources to find news and opinions about money. We want to show you those options. You’ll be familiar with a lot of the sites in the directory, and a lot of them will be new to you.

In many categories, there are boxes that contain hand-picked listings pertaining to that category, that we feel will be of great help to many people interested in that subject, but by all means, don’t stop there, because the regular listings are good too, or else they wouldn’t be indexed in the first place!

We encourage you to submit your sites, but please make sure they are “ready for prime time“.

The directory will continue to grow and we always welcome feedback. You can stay updated on the latest happenings regarding the directory at the blog or by subscribing to the RSS Feeds. Submitters will also receive a newsletter.

If you have any questions regarding the WebProNews eBusiness Directory, feel free to ask your inquiry in our forum under the Niche Directories category. Be sure to include “WebProNews eBusiness Directory” within your subject line.

As time goes by, business changes, along with the names, trends, and future outlooks of your business. We, at iEntry understand this, and are willing to move with the changes of your business. Whichever directory your site listing is in, such as Jayde, a niche directory like CampusTI / DeepLinked, or a regional directory like EnterUK, we can change the Title and/or Description for you.

To do this, simply go to our forum and click on the category where your site listed is included and post a thread in the subcategory of Site Listing Modifications. Be sure to include the URL of your site listing, along with the Title/Description that you would like to be amended on your specific site listing.

This is also an interesting way to get the word out of your business’ site using our forum. Hope to see you there!

A frequent question that I receive in my inbox from site submitters is “Is my site really there?”, and there a few avenues to the answer of this question which are…

Once you have submitted your site using our directory’s submit form, the process does not stop there. As instructed after you click the “Submit” button, you will receive an e-mail from our company at the e-mail address which you entered on the directory’s submit form. This e-mail from us will include a confirmation link that once triggered, will start the inclusion process of your site in our directory.

When the confirmation link is clicked, and the inclusion process has started, there is a brief waiting period (usually 3-5 days) where your site will be skimmed by our crawler for keywords and phrases to be included for the title, description, and keywords for your site’s listing. The waiting period can vary between the 3-5 days, depending on how many submissions there are, and how large your site is.

After the crawling process has completed, you will receive an e-mail stating that your site listing is active in our directory along with a link to your site listing’s location within the category where you specified for it to be listed. In some cases, the link may not take you directly to your site’s listing, because if the category has an abundance of listings, and is included in a very popular category to submit to, your site listing may move around in the category, but rest assured that your site is included in the specific category.

Picture of search toolAn easy way to check that your site has been listed in our directory is to use the directory’s quick and easy Searching tool. On the majority of our directories, it is placed right above the “Submit Your Site.” Just simply enter your site’s URL (e.g. joesfishingshoppe.com) into the text box, and then click on the Search button right next to the text box–your link will then automatically appear for you.

Still not seeing your site listing? Let me know in the forum under the “Inclusion Errors” subcategory of the type of directory which you have submitted (Jayde, Niche, or Regional), and I will be glad to help you. See you in the forum!
